The Basics
We are using the book The Bible Recap by Tara-Leigh Cobble starting on January 1st.
Here's how it works:
- There are 2 forms this comes in!
- Digital – (audio learners) Use the YouVersion Bible app to listen to the daily verses. Then listen to the corresponding podcast for a discussion on understanding what you read. (See more in "Digital Instructions" below)
- Physical – (visual learners) Read your regular Bible. Get a Bible Recap book and read the daily discussion in there. (See more in "Physical Instructions" below)
- What’s so special about this plan?
- It's chronological! That means we are reading the Bible in a way that tells the story as it happened instead of skipping around.
- This is not a huge daily commitment! 12 minutes spent in the Bible itself, 8 minutes discussing the passage of the day = 20 minutes with the Lord.
- The Bible Recap contains a “God-Shot” in the discussion portion.
- A God-shot is a “screenshot” of what you need to know about God in that particular section.
- What do I need to do?
- Step 1: Read
- Read the daily verses
- Step 2: Listen
- Listen to the podcast discussion or read the discussion book
- Step 3: Pray
- Don’t forget to pray about what you learned!
- What's the purpose of this?
- To learn from God, Himself, instead of relying on others’ interpretations such as a sermon or devotional.
Digital Instructions
- Download the YouVersion Bible app if you have not already.
- This is a free digital Bible that comes in several different translations. The author of the Bible Recap uses the ESV translations, WAC generally uses the NIV translation.
- What's the difference?
- ESV is a word for word translation
- NIV is a word for thought translation
